Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) is often claimed as the “King of Medicine” and is one of the most important drugs in Ayurveda that was used vastly in different Ayurvedic formulations. It is one of the important three parts of Triphala, a well-known polyherbal Ayurvedic formulation.

It is a moderate or large-sized tree found throughout India and comprises the pericarp of mature fruits of Terminalia chebula. Its leaves are sub opposite, ovate, 10-20 cm long, and deciduous during the cold season.

It is rich in chebulinic acid, tannic acid, anthraquinone glycoside, and vitamin C in fruits. Also, it contains behenic, palmitic, Arachidic, and stearic acids.

Hariktaki fruit is an important ingredient of ‘Triphala’, an Ayurvedic formulation used in the management of various health issues like chronic constipation, indigestion, colic pain, kidney dysfunctions, and liver disorders.

Adult person can take 2-3gm twice a day after food or as suggested by the ayurveda consultant.
